Just a few months following their fairy-tale wedding, Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan had twins through surrogacy and shared their first photos on social media. The faces of the newborn babies were not revealed in the pictures.
Vignesh posted a photo of him and Nayanthara kissing the little feet of their newborn twins, saying “Nayan & Me have become Amma & Appa. We are blessed with Twin Baby Boys. All our prayers, our ancestors’ blessings combined wit all the good manifestations made, have come 2gethr in the form of 2 blessed babies for us. Need all ur blessings for our Uyir & Ulagam. Life looks brighter & more beautiful. God is double great.”
Ulagam and Uyir are Tamil words. Ulagam means world while Uyir literally translates to life.
Congratulatory messages from fans and friends in the movie industry flooded the comment section. In another Instagram post, the film director posted a photo of his wife with their twin baby boys.
Fans surprised by the arrival of Vignesh and Nayanthara twins
Fans of the celebrity A-list couple were shocked by the announcement of the arrival of Uyi and Ulagam because Nayanthara was not spotted with a baby bump ahead of the baby’s arrival. Other Indian celebrities who opted for surrogacy include Farah Khan–Shirish Kunder, Gauri–Shahrukh Khan, and Kiran Rao–Aamir Khan.
Ever since the couple tied the knot in June this year, their fans have been on the lookout for a pregnancy announcement. In fact, pregnancy speculations had been popping here and there. Vignesh had earlier posted Instagram story that further encouraged these speculations. He posted a photo of him and Nayanthara posing with some kids with the caption “SOME KIDS TIME…PRACTICE FOR THE FUTURE.”
Despite India’s surrogacy ban?
A section of social media was also surprised as the government of India banned commercial surrogacy in January 2022, and many infertile couples have been left dejected.
However, it seems that to protect the interests of the patients and the surrogates, who had already initiated the process, the government allowed a buffer period of upto nine months so all ongoing treatments could be completed.
Vignesh and Nayanthara’s babies must be among the last of those to be born out of commercial surrogacy arrangements in India for a while.
Surrogacy is India is not only a huge commercial industry but also a genuine requirement for so many couples, who are left with few options since the ban. The government must find a better way to regulate the industry before more people start going overseas for their surrogacy.
Overflowing blessings
Last month, Vignesh and Nayanthara flew to Dubai to celebrate his 37th birthday with family and close friends.
The film producer wrote an introspective note to express his thoughts, saying that it was the best birthday ever. He shared that it has been his lifelong dream to take his mother to foreign countries and being able to achieve that gave more meaning to all his hard work.
“The days with my family visiting Dubai and all the excitement and happiness that I was cherishing with them will always stay warm in my heart Thanking God and the universe for ticking most of my bucket list wishes by now,” read the note.
While they were on holiday, Nayanthara surprised Vignesh with an extravagant birthday bash on a yacht with a breathtaking view of the Dubai nightscape. The birthday boy shared snippets of the celebration, where he is seen slicing a cake while Nayanthara and his family members sang “Happy Birthday” for him in the background.
The lyricist posted on Instagram a video with a heartfelt caption thanking his better half for making his birthday more memorable than the last. This was the couple’s 8th year of celebrating it together and the film director didn’t fall short in appreciating his wife’s love and presence in his life.

Vignesh and Nayanthara’s love story
Both working in the movie industry, Vignesh and Nayanthara first crossed paths in 2015 while shooting the movie Naanum Rowdy Dhan. After two years, they made their relationship official by showing up as a couple when they attended an awarding event in Singapore.
Nayanthara and Vignesh tied the knot on June 9 in Chennai. It was an intimate celebration attended by the couple’s family and close friends. Several A-listers graced the wedding including Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay Sethupathi, Rajinikanth, Suriya, and Mani Ratnam.
Following their dreamy wedding, the newlyweds traveled to Thailand to spend their honeymoon.
Netflix is set to premiere a documentary focusing on the love story and wedding of Vignesh and Nayanthara. Secret engagement
In 2021, the 37-year-old actress shared details about their secret engagement while promoting a movie on Vijay Television. She shared that even though they were considered celebrities, they chose to keep a portion of their lives away from the public eye.
“Our engagement happened in the presence of our immediate family members,” Nayanthara said.
New chapter for Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan with twins
While the newlyweds are relishing this new chapter of their life as parents, they continue to juggle parenting with their projects. The new mom of twins was recently spotted working in the GodFather film with Chiranjeevi and is set to be part of Atlee’s Jawan with veteran actor Shah Rukh Khan. This is considered to be her first role as her entry into Bollywood. Aside from that, she will also be starring in Gold with Prithviraj Sukumaran as her co-star.
Meanwhile, Vignesh is preparing to head AK62 with Ajith taking the lead role. Nayanthara is anticipated to be the leading lady for this project but an official announcement or confirmation has yet to be made.
