Mariah Carey’s IVF resulted in the successful conception of twins—a boy and a girl—but it was not without its complications.
Born in 1970, as Mariah was approaching 40, when she and husband, Nick Cannon tried desperately to conceive.
Following their miscarriage, the couple struggled to conceive again, so they decided to get IVF treatment.
On advice from fellow singer Celine Dion, who had her own struggles with infertility, Mariah Carey enrolled for daily acupuncture sessions alongside her IVF, in order to reduce her stress levels.
“Celine was talking about acupuncture. I used to get acupuncture, and I had never thought (of it) with regards to the trying to conceive situation. I was (getting acupuncture), like, once a day at least.”
Mariah was also prescribed progesterone supplements before conceiving and for the first part of her pregnancy.
The treatment worked and they conceived twins but the pregnancy was classed as high-risk for various reasons.
While carrying her twins, Mariah was diagnosed with both gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia, which put her at risk of having pregnancy-related seizures.
Mariah was put on bed rest until her twins were delivered safely. She said that being pregnant has put her off having any more children. Due to her very difficult and traumatic pregnancy, she states that she would not wish to go through this experience again.

It might have helped. From what I’ve seen, Mariah Carey used multiple things: hormones, egg donation, and lifestyle changes, along with acupuncture.
What stands out to me is that acupuncture was likely more of a supportive tool than a deciding factor. She linked it to stress reduction and preparing her body, not as a standalone fix.
So I’d frame it this way: acupuncture might help create better conditions (less stress, better blood flow, hormonal balance), but it doesn’t override the fundamentals of fertility. The actual outcome still depends on core variables like egg quality, uterine environment, and the treatment protocol.
Attributing success to acupuncture alone oversimplifies what was clearly a multi-layered process.
