Paris Hilton and her boyfriend Carter Reum had IVF with Kim Kardashian’s fertility doctor and talking to The Trend Reporter host Mara Schiavocampo while on her podcast, she said:
“We have been doing the IVF so I can pick twins if I like. Kim is actually the one who told me about that—I didn’t know anything about it. I am happy she told me that advice and introduced me to her doctor.”
Hilton then added: “I really want twins who are a boy and a girl. So, this is the only way to 100% get that.”
I guess that's what triggered people because many women found it offensive that someone wants to use IVF as a luxury to have kids of a preferred gender.
However, I believe IVF was not as much a choice for Hilton and she probably just chose the wrong words. She'd frozen her eggs a few years ago (also on the recommendation of Kim K) and the only way to use those was IVF now.

Paris Hilton’s IVF announcement was criticized mainly because some people felt she was using IVF “by choice” rather than because of infertility. A lot of online comments questioned why she would go through fertility treatment when she had not publicly spoken about struggling to conceive naturally.
But from what she shared, her decision was connected to anxiety around pregnancy and childbirth, especially after past traumatic experiences. She also talked about wanting more control over the process and being able to plan for twins.
I think the criticism became intense because people still have very rigid ideas about who is considered “allowed” to use IVF. Some viewed IVF as something that should only be used for medical infertility, while others argued reproductive choices are personal and nobody owes the public justification.
Another thing that probably triggered reactions was her openness about selecting embryos and discussing gender selection publicly. That made some people uncomfortable ethically, even though practices like that already exist in many fertility clinics.
What stood out to me most was how divided the responses were. Some people accused her of “treating IVF like a luxury option,” while others defended her completely and said women should be free to make reproductive decisions without public judgment.
