Legal considerations for IUI in Thailand

Thailand's 2015 Assisted Reproductive Technology Act requires all patients undergoing IUI at licensed clinics to be legally married. Both partners must present a valid marriage certificate. Single women, unmarried couples, and same-sex couples are not eligible at licensed clinics. Foreign married couples are eligible and routinely treated at private clinics that serve international patients.

Donor sperm is available at licensed private fertility clinics in Bangkok and Phuket. Both anonymous and known donor arrangements are offered depending on clinic policy. Donors are screened under Thai Ministry of Public Health standards. Import of donor sperm from international banks is possible subject to documentation requirements; confirm with your clinic.

There is no statutory age limit for IUI patients under the ART Act. Clinics apply clinical criteria based on ovarian reserve and individual health assessment. Most private clinics recommend three to four IUI cycles before advising IVF. Stimulated and natural cycle IUI are both available.

Planning your IUI in Thailand

For patients based in Thailand, a stimulated IUI cycle involves two to three monitoring scans during the stimulation phase plus the insemination appointment. Private fertility clinics in Bangkok typically offer weekday morning monitoring slots. The insemination appointment is brief and does not require sedation or recovery time. Natural cycle IUI requires fewer clinic visits and less time away from work.

For international patients, most established fertility clinics in Bangkok accept remote monitoring protocols where patients complete stimulation and scans at a clinic in their home country and travel to Thailand for the insemination only. This can reduce total time in Thailand to two to four days per cycle. Most nationalities can enter Thailand visa-free for stays up to 30 days.

Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) in Bangkok is a major regional hub with direct connections from Australia, Europe, the Middle East, and across Asia. Phuket International Airport (HKT) has direct routes from some European and Australian cities.

Is donor sperm available in Thailand?

Yes. Donor sperm is available at licensed private fertility clinics. Both anonymous and known donor arrangements are offered depending on clinic policy.

Do I need to be in Thailand for the full stimulation phase?

Three to four cycles is standard at most private clinics, depending on age, diagnosis, and stimulation response. There is no legal limit on the number of cycles.
