Why did Rita Ora freeze her eggs in her 20s?

Rita Ora said she froze her eggs in her 20s mainly because watching her mother go through early menopause changed how she thought about fertility.

Her mom had breast cancer treatment at a young age, which triggered menopause early, and that seems to have made Rita much more proactive about preserving fertility before there was ever a problem.

What’s interesting is that she didn’t describe it as panic or desperation. It sounded more like, “I’d rather prepare early than regret waiting later.”

She froze her eggs twice, at 24 and 27, after doctors told her those were good ages for egg quality. And now that she’s in her mid-30s, she’s said she’s grateful she made that decision because many friends around her are struggling with fertility timing now.

I think her story resonated because most celebrity fertility conversations happen after infertility starts. Hers was more about trying to think ahead before reaching that point.

The most fertile age for women is said to be their early 20s but fertility levels typically do not decline significantly until the mid to late 30s. So yes, women opt for egg freezing only if they haven’t met anyone by the time they’re past their fertile years, which is around the mid-30s.

Egg freezing is rarely ever done in the early 20s but Rita Ora certainly had her reasons.

Rita Ora started believing from a very young age that one should make the best use of what they have and make the most of it.

“Coming from nothing, I don’t want to say ‘no’ to anything,” she said.

So, when her family doctor advised ‘you are healthy now and it would be great, why not put them away and then you never have to worry about it again?’, she took it very positively and chose to freeze her eggs not once, but twice!

Ora first froze her eggs at 24 years and did it again at the age of 27.
