Improve sperm DNA fragmentation?

Does anyone know how to improve their sperm DNA fragmentation from 70% to 30% or so? Improving DNA fragmentation index (DFI) is crucial to conception in our case and I would really appreciate any experience or advice. Thank you

Sperm DNA fragmentation testing is basically a deeper sperm test that looks at the quality of the DNA inside the sperm, not just count, motility, or morphology.

A lot of couples only hear about it after:

  1. repeated IVF failure
  2. recurrent miscarriages
  3. poor embryo development
  4. unexplained infertility

What confused me initially is that a semen analysis can look “normal” but DNA fragmentation can still be high. So someone can technically have decent sperm numbers but the sperm DNA itself may be damaged.

Things that seem linked to higher fragmentation:

  1. smoking
  2. heat exposure
  3. stress
  4. varicocele
  5. poor lifestyle habits
  6. age

I’ve also seen a lot of men ask whether it can improve, and apparently sometimes it can. Doctors often suggest lifestyle changes, antioxidants, treating varicocele if present, improving sleep, cutting smoking/alcohol, things like that. But sperm takes a few months to regenerate, so improvements are usually slow rather than immediate.

And honestly, this seems to be one of those tests couples discover only after multiple failed cycles and then end up thinking: “Why didn’t anyone check this earlier?”

Our nutritionist found super low nutrients in my husband’s blood. She suggested he cut out gluten completely to repair his gut so that nutrients are absorbed better. She also prescribed a number of supplements and probiotics. That combined with daily exercise and ConceptionXR supplements helped bring down the DNA fragmentation significantly. Original DNA fragmentation was 56%, dropped to less than 10%.
